Back when I was in school, mornings were a lot easier. I jumped out of bed right when the alarm went off, got dressed, ate breakfast, and was out the door. It was pretty simple and rushed because I had to be somewhere at a certain time. But now it is different for me because I usually don’t go to work till 4-meaning my mornings are wide open.

Now I have two choices: 1) be super lazy and take advantage of not being rushed, or 2) take this time to develop a healthy morning routine.

Honestly, I was going back and forth on those two for a while, but for the past month, I have been following a new morning routine regularly, and I couldn’t be more surprised at just how positively it has affected the hours following. I now have a lot more structure in my day, I feel as if I have already accomplished so much, and I am seeing differences in my mood and how my body physically feels.

Everyone needs different things in the morning and has different lifestyles, but I wanted to share with you all what has been working so well for me. It is a simple routine that I allow three hours every morning. So, let’s dive in!

My Schedule

7:00 am

The alarm goes off, and it is time to get out of bed.

Brush my teeth, wash my face, put on makeup, and put on my workout clothes.

Make the bed and tidy up the bedroom.

Put away all the dishes that were drying from the night before.

Make and eat my breakfast and drink tea. This is usually when I also get on my phone to do things on Instagram, check email, etc.

Go to the gym and work out. I rotate through workouts but I try to allow about an hour and a half for this time, and I also sit in the steam room for a few minutes following the workout!

Take a shower and finish getting ready for the day.

Meditate for 5 minutes.

Final Thoughts

So, as you can see, that is a three-hour block, but I am not applying specific time intervals for each activity. I feel by doing this, I am less rushed and stressed about everything I need to get done. So overall, I make my apartment clean, eat a healthy breakfast, hit the gym, get ready for the day, and meditate all in three hours. And by doing this every day, I set good intentions and am treating my body the best that I can.

My routine wouldn’t work for everyone, but some people could benefit from it! You could always try and follow it exactly or make some tweaks, both with the timing and activities. For example, I do not have any children so that does not factor into my morning like it does so many people. Whether this routine works for you or not, I suggest you try and put some consistency in your mornings and see if it makes you feel any different for the rest of the day. A little dose of self love never hurt anybody!
