From Scoop to Sip: My Matcha Kari Experience

As someone who enjoys trying new health-focused beverages, I was really excited to test out this full matcha-making kit from Matcha Kari. They sent me a variety of items to create my own matcha drinks at home, including two types of matcha powder and beautifully designed accessories. While there were a few things I didn’t love, the experience overall was fun and felt like a little tea ceremony right in my kitchen!
What’s Included
The kit I received from Matcha Kari came with everything needed to craft the perfect cup of matcha. First, there’s the Organic Matcha Superior powder, a ceremonial-grade matcha made from first-harvest leaves and grown using traditional Japanese methods. It's shade-grown and stone-ground, giving it a vibrant green color and delivering a smooth, umami-rich flavor.
I also tried the Vanilla Matcha powder, which is flavored with natural vanilla and lightly sweetened with monk fruit. It’s designed to be a convenient, ready-to-mix option that still offers the benefits of ceremonial-grade matcha.
The Electric Bamboo Frother was super easy to use and created a nice froth in just a few seconds — perfect for when you don’t want to whisk by hand. The design is also sleek and unique, with a bamboo finish that looks great on the counter.
They also sent the Matcha Tea Scoop (Chashaku), a traditional bamboo scoop that helps you portion out the right amount of matcha (about 1 gram per scoop). The Matcha Sifter was useful too — it prevents clumps and makes for a smoother, more enjoyable drink. It’s especially handy if you like to mix matcha with cold water or milk.
Lastly, the Premium Matcha Drinking Cup was one of my favorite items in the kit. It’s handmade in Japan and has a rustic, earthy feel that really enhances the matcha-drinking experience. Each mug is slightly different due to the artisanal process, which makes it feel more personal and special.
The Aesthetic & Quality
One of the best parts of this kit is the design. Everything is beautiful and clearly made with care. The handmade drinking mug was my favorite item, as it’s sleek, simple, and makes every cup of matcha feel a little more special. The frother worked great and created a nice foam on top of the drink. The scoop and sifter felt traditional and added to the ritual of making matcha rather than just mixing a powder into water.
The Taste Test
I really wanted to love the matcha itself, especially since it’s organic and ceremonial grade. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste. The Organic Matcha Superior Powder had a slightly bitter aftertaste that didn’t sit well with me compared to other matchas I’ve tried in the past. The Vanilla Matcha Powder was more enjoyable and added a subtle sweetness, but still didn’t totally win me over flavor-wise.
Who It’s For
This kit would be great for someone who already loves matcha and wants to commit to making it a daily part of their wellness routine. It’s also a good option for anyone trying to cut back on sugary drinks like soda or sweetened coffee and is looking for a more natural energy boost. If you're health-focused and appreciate well-designed tools in your kitchen, you’ll probably enjoy having this set.
Even though the flavor wasn’t my personal favorite, the quality and aesthetic of the Matcha Kari products are undeniable. It was a lovely experience to use everything, and I can definitely see the appeal for matcha lovers who want to turn their beverage into a calming daily ritual.
